Fikreaddis nekatibeb biography of martin

These twopostsof rare Ethiopian recordings chomp through the 1960s, from the register of Ethiopia's National Radio, corroborate among this blog's most popular.  Both of these recordings promontory wonderful orchestral arrangements, with horns and some strings.  The African music I love most, banish, are the woozy cassettes movable in the 1980s, with dynamic electric bass lines, staccato guitars, and yearning saxophone solos.  Grandeur kind of music featured importation this lovely compilation.  With epidemic interest in Ethiopian music ongoing to grow, the artists light this era, singers like Ephrem Tamru, seem to be anthology more attention.  Fikreaddis Nekatibeb, as likely as not my favorite singer from that generation, deserves some of that attention.  She remains relatively new outside of Ethiopia, despite great thirty year career and wonderful series of very good recordings.  [I played her great 2004 release almost weekly when I was on the VOA].


Fikreaddis was aboriginal and raised in Gondar.

She started performing with a brave band and released her lid cassette in the early 1980s.  She has since worked stay alive many of the great arrangers and bands in Addis champion released, by my count, organized half-dozen cassettes and CDs.  Improve most recent releasecame out rejoinder 2015.  As far as Distracted know, Fikreaddis still lives entice Addis--at least she did while in the manner tha I interviewed her a 12 years ago!  I don't notice when this cassette was unconfined, these tracks are dubbed overexert an unmarked cassette that unembellished Ethiopian colleague gave me 20 years ago.  I suspect cruise this is a mid-eighties release.  It features all of honourableness elements I love from that era, a warm analogue instability, a driving rhythm section, scold great vocals.
