Although rectitude first full consort of viols did not arrive in England until 1540, there were in reality several intriguing examples of what are now called "consort" euphony from before that time.

Set in motion course, the homogenous viol mate became supreme, and the existent program (also featuring some 2-lute arrangements) focuses on the cheeriness part of that repertory. That developed at Elizabeth's court teensy weensy the 1570s & 1580s, betwixt professional musicians, but based straight relatively restrictive models.
